Good morning. The Ducks keep scoring. They put five past Edmonton on Thursday, their sixth straight game with five or more, and held on 5-4 for their third straight win. Only one other NHL team since 1993-94 has done that. In Detroit, rookie Trevor Connelly scored with under two minutes left, and the Golden Knights won 2-1 for their second straight win. UCLA and San Diego State’s women are both 2-0. Tonight, the Ducks play the second game of a back-to-back in Calgary, the Lakers host Portland, UCLA’s men host North Florida, and Hawaii opens the Rainbow Classic. Let’s get into it.

📋 SCOREBOARD — THURSDAY
🏒 NHL: Ducks 5, Oilers 4 · Golden Knights 2, Red Wings 1
🏀 WBB: UCLA 78, UC Irvine 42 · San Diego State 73, North Texas 57 · San Francisco 85, Hawaii 79 (OT)
🏒 FIVE, AGAIN AND AGAIN
The first period in Edmonton had 41 penalty minutes. Drew Helleson’s hit sent Connor McDavid’s knee into the post, Vasily Podkolzin fought Helleson, and Podkolzin’s fighting major gave the Ducks a power play. Cutter Gauthier scored on it, his ninth goal in four games and his league-leading ninth power-play goal.
Edmonton went up 2-1 in the second. Then Pavel Mintyukov scored his first two goals of the season, both in the second period, and Beckett Sennecke scored to make it 4-2 after two. Sennecke added a power-play goal early in the third for 5-2. Edmonton scored twice late, the last with 45 seconds left, and Laurent Brossoit made 23 saves to hold on. Mintyukov finished with a goal, an assist and a fight.
Zach Cavanagh writes that the Ducks are the second NHL team since 1993-94 to score five in six straight games, after the 2021-22 Maple Leafs. They have 34 goals in that span. Gauthier has a power-play goal in four straight games, tying Teemu Selanne for the second-longest such streak in franchise history, and Jackson LaCombe tied Scott Niedermayer’s franchise record with an assist in his eighth straight game. The Ducks are 8-7-1 and play at Calgary tonight, then debut their Hometown Remix jerseys against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

🏒 THE ROOKIE KEEPS DELIVERING
Trevor Connelly scored in the third period for the third straight game. Detroit took the lead in the third, Braeden Bowman tied it a little more than two minutes later, and with just under two minutes left Connelly beat a defender and scored past Daniil Tarasov. Vegas won 2-1. Derek Hegna writes that Carter Hart made 25 saves, maybe his best game of the season. Connelly is tied for the NHL rookie lead with seven goals. The Golden Knights close their trip Sunday at Buffalo.
Aaron Donald is still having fun. Eric Lambkins II writes that the Rams (4-4) haven’t had the season Donald came out of retirement for. Myles Garrett has missed most of the year, though he returned to practice this week, and Jaylen Watson is out for the season. Donald, who tried and failed to scoop and score on a Justin Herbert fumble against the Chargers, has been at the front of the line in scoop drills since. The Rams play at Washington on Sunday.
