Chelsea Gray tied it at the regulation buzzer, then won it at the overtime buzzer — the first player in WNBA history to do both in the same game. The Aces beat the Fever, 86-84, in Indianapolis.
Good morning! Chelsea Gray did something Thursday night no player in league history had done before, and she did it twice in the space of five minutes. Elsewhere, the Sparks pulled off the upset of the week in Minneapolis, the Galaxy landed a Designated Player from an unlikely source — San Diego — the Rams broke camp at LMU, and UCLA opened fall camp under Bob Chesney. Down 20 in the second quarter and staring at a sweep, the Aces got out of Indianapolis with something better than a win — they got a piece of history. Chelsea Gray hit a three in the final second of regulation to force overtime, then walked it off with a buzzer-beating triple in the extra period for an 86-84 victory. No player in WNBA history had ever hit a game-tying buzzer-beater at the end of regulation and a game-winner in overtime in the same game.
The sequence that set up the final shot was all defense: A’ja Wilson stripped Caitlin Clark, Jackie Young pushed it ahead and kicked to Gray. Young was the reason there was a game left to win at all — trailing by 20 and having missed her first five shots, she scored the Aces’ final 13 points of the second quarter to fuel a 15-0 run. “Jackie was awesome tonight,” Gray said. “She had a slow start and was in foul trouble. She comes in, we give her the ball, she goes on a run for us and brings us back.” Las Vegas then held Indiana to nine points in the third. “From the end of the second quarter into the third quarter, I think we got 15 stops in a row,” Becky Hammon said. “That’s why I’m optimistic when we do play defense, because I know we can win any game when we’re locked in defensively.” Wilson scored the Aces’ first eight points of overtime.

🏀 THE SPARKS WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO WIN THIS ONE
A team that had lost seven of eight walked into Minneapolis on the second night of a back-to-back and beat a team that had won 10 straight and owns the best record in the league. The Sparks closed on an 8-0 run to take it 89-82, holding the Lynx to 11 points in the fourth quarter. Cameron Brink was the difference — 12 points, eight rebounds, a career-high five assists, three blocks and a game-best plus-22, including a Napheesa Collier rejection with under two minutes left and Los Angeles up three. “Cam really is kind of our North Star,” Nneka Ogwumike said. “Cam is almost like the finisher inside.” Brink admitted she was nervous about the back-to-back: “I’ve honestly been leaning on everybody and it’s been great.” Rae Burrell led five Sparks in double figures with 17, and Monique Akoa Makani — four days into her Sparks tenure — closed the game and hit the jumper that made it 87-82. “This has been an interesting four days,” coach Lynne Roberts said. Los Angeles (12-18) finished the trip 2-1 and hosts Golden State on Sunday.

⚽ CHUCKY LOZANO GETS A SECOND ACT UP THE FREEWAY
The Galaxy’s search for an attacking centerpiece ended with one of the most polarizing names in Mexican soccer — and one that belonged to a division rival two hours south. LA acquired Hirving “Chucky” Lozano on loan from San Diego FC as its third Designated Player. Lozano was the face of San Diego’s expansion project in 2025, producing nine goals and 10 assists in 27 appearances, before an October locker room altercation following a halftime substitution against Houston unraveled everything. By January, sporting director Tyler Heaps said Lozano was no longer part of the club’s plans. He hasn’t appeared for San Diego in 2026 and has trained separately from the first team all season.
The Galaxy are betting a change of scenery restores the player, not the drama. LA has already added Kyogo Furuhashi and Robert Taylor while transferring Gabriel Pec to Cruzeiro for a club-record fee. “We haven’t been good enough so far this year,” GM Will Kuntz said. “I think we have a better group than we’ve shown… This is a league where playing your best later in the season matters more.” The Galaxy sit outside the Western Conference playoff places. Lozano, a star at PSV and Napoli and a fixture at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, has spent 2026 defined by inactivity. The spotlight follows him up the freeway.
