On the field, Tuesday was a clean sweep of the wrong kind — the Dodgers lost late in Atlanta in Tyler Glasnow’s return, the Angels gave away a 5-0 lead and then a 6-5 lead, and the Padres were shut out 1-0 on a ninth-inning home run off a closer who hadn’t allowed one in more than a year. ⚾ GLASNOW’S FIRST INNING, AND EVERYTHING AFTER
It took Tyler Glasnow 35 pitches to get out of the first inning Tuesday, and Atlanta had three runs before the Dodgers came to bat a second time. Then he became the pitcher they have been waiting on since May 6.
Glasnow struck out the side in the second and retired 14 of the final 16 hitters he faced, twice stranding a runner at second. Dave Roberts let him go 89 pitches to finish the fifth: six hits, three earned, no walks, seven strikeouts, 55 strikes.
“Glad I feel healthy, and my stuff feels good,” Glasnow said.
The offense clawed all the way back. Alek Thomas singled home Tommy Edman in the second and Hunter Feduccia followed with an RBI single scoring Kyle Tucker. Alex Call tied it in the fourth, lining one to center to score Edman, who had singled and stolen second. Thomas now has a hit and an RBI in each of his first three games as a Dodger.
Then the eighth. Matt Olson doubled to lead off, Ozzie Albies singled him in off Tanner Scott, and Atlanta had it 4-3.
Shohei Ohtani led off the ninth with a triple. Ninety feet, nobody out. Freddie Freeman struck out. Mookie Betts grounded to short and Ohtani couldn’t advance. Atlanta walked Max Muncy intentionally. Tommy Edman flew to center.
The six-game winning streak is over. Los Angeles is 80-52 and three games behind Milwaukee for the best record in the National League. Roki Sasaki goes against AJ Smith-Shawver this afternoon.

Two outs, ninth inning, no score. Mason Miller threw a 98 mph changeup and Oneil Cruz hit it into right field for the only run of a 1-0 Pittsburgh win.
“He’s human,” Craig Stammen said.
Miller was blunter. “Humans can be idiots sometimes. Tip your hat. Good swing. Crushed it obviously. But I just can’t be throwing that pitch in that spot.”
He had not allowed a home run since Aug. 5, 2025. He had also pitched in four of the last five games, 71 pitches across his last four appearances, 30 of them Monday — and told Stammen before the game he was available. “I think that’s part of my value and part of my responsibility to this team,” Miller said.
The larger problem is at the plate. San Diego went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position, making it 1-for-20 over two games. Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Jackson Merrill and Xander Bogaerts have combined to go 2-for-31 in that span. As Fernando Ramirez put it, this team is not good enough offensively to win consistently without its four highest-paid players hitting.
It was a genuine pitching duel — Michael King threw seven innings with seven strikeouts and a first-pitch strike to 24 of 26 hitters, and Paul Skenes answered with six scoreless, his first start without an earned run since May 12.
The worse news came from Phoenix. Arizona trailed the Cubs 4-0 into the eighth and won it 5-4 on a Ryan Waldschmidt walk-off. The Padres’ hold on the last National League wild card is down to one game, and Pittsburgh goes for the sweep this afternoon behind Bubba Chandler.

⚾ FIVE-NOTHING WASN’T ENOUGH
The Angels scored five runs in the first two innings against Gavin Williams, one of the best strikeout pitchers in baseball, and here is the strange part: every one of those six hits came with two strikes. They reached two-strike counts in 10 of their first 11 plate appearances and hit anyway, chasing Williams after he recorded four outs.
Then it unraveled. Walbert Ureña walked five in 3⅔ innings and threw just 50 strikes in 89 pitches. He escaped first-and-second with nobody out in the first and the bases loaded with nobody out in the second, but in the fourth he walked the leadoff man and gave up three straight hits.
“I feel like I lost just everything, mechanically and mentally too,” Ureña said.
“The guy’s been so good for us,” Kurt Suzuki said. “It’s so hard to critique and nitpick after a little hiccup right there. He battled, and he gave us whatever he had.”
José Fermin gave up four singles in the fifth and the game was tied. Vaughn Grissom answered with his second homer of the night — the first multi-homer game of his career — and the Angels led again, 6-5. José Ramírez doubled in the tying run in the eighth. Mike Trout appeared to have put Anaheim back ahead in the bottom half with a two-run drive to dead center, until Angel Martinez leaped and took it back.
Ramírez doubled again in the 10th, scoring two, and that was the game, 8-6. He now owns a 1.030 OPS and 21 home runs in 64 career games against the Angels — his best mark against any American League opponent.
