🏈 “I’M BACK”
The Rams announced it Sunday. By the afternoon, Aaron Donald was on the practice field in Woodland Hills, greeting teammates, and Fredo Cervantes wrote that the air had the particular charge of something unexpected becoming real.
The terms: one year, $20 million, with another $10 million reachable through playoff incentives.
Donald was clear about why it took this long.
“You can’t be halfway in, you got to be all the way in it,” he said. “So, had to get to that point where I felt like I’m 100% committed to playing football again.”
He spent the offseason answering the only question that mattered — working with his longtime speed trainer, testing whether the body still did what it used to. The trainer’s verdict was that he hadn’t lost a step.
“I’ve kind of been in a football mindset the last 14 weeks,” Donald said. “Do I feel like I can still be myself? Hundred percent. If I didn’t feel like that, I wouldn’t be here.”
Sean McVay put it another way: “He’s earned the right where he doesn’t have to do this.”
He really didn’t. Donald last played in 2023, closing a ten-year run with a Pro Bowl in every season and eight First-Team All-Pro selections. He is one of three players ever to win Defensive Player of the Year three times, alongside Lawrence Taylor and J.J. Watt. He was one of three unanimous picks to the NFL’s 2010s All-Decade Team, with Tom Brady and Watt. And on fourth down in Super Bowl LVI, in the building the Rams still call home, he pressured Joe Burrow into the incompletion that ended it.
The career line: 154 games, 543 tackles, 111 sacks, 176 tackles for loss, 256 quarterback hits, 24 forced fumbles. Two years off the field and he still ranks seventh among active players in sacks and second in both tackles for loss and quarterback hits.
McVay said the Rams will take it one day at a time before deciding whether Donald is ready for Week 1 against San Francisco in Melbourne — eleven days from now.

⚾ GOING AROUND THE DIAMOND
The Dodgers left Detroit with two wins in three days, closing it out 6-1 on Sunday behind a Teoscar Hernández home run that traveled 434 feet. It is a strange stretch to read: swept in Atlanta, then a sweep of their own, with the first two games in Detroit both decided 2-1.
Anaheim had the opposite weekend. Philadelphia took all three at Angel Stadium, finishing 5-2 on Sunday, and the Angels have now lost six in a row — three to Cleveland, three to the Phillies, most of them games they led.
And in Tampa, the Padres lost the finale and the series when a tying home run came off Mason Miller on what should have been the last out. It is the second time in a week Miller has given up the decisive swing, and San Diego’s hold on the last National League wild card is not the sort of thing that survives many more weeks like this one.
